Holiday cocktails

This is the season for entertaining. Why not kick things up a notch with with these great holiday coolers? All you need are the recipes below to ensure that everyone shares in the spirit of the season.

Smirnoff Spice

This is a great twist to the old-time favourite Christmas sorrel.

60 ml Smirnoff vanilla flavoured vodka

Tru-Juice Sorrel with Ginger

Garnish

Nutmeg flavoured sugar

Pimento seeds

Martini glasses, flat plate, cocktail shaker and strainer.

Method

First, place one tablespoon of sugar or more on a flat plate and add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg. Rub martini glass rim with lime or water and place into the mixture to rim the glass.

In a shaker filled with ice, pour the measured Smirnoff vanilla flavoured vodka and shake. Strain mixture equally into two martini glasses and top to the brim with Tru-Juice Sorrel with Ginger. Float a couple of pimento seeds on top. Serves two.

Cosmopolitan

Many see this as the female version of the perfect martini. Cosmopolitan mix is readily available in most supermarket and nothing is wrong with making your life easier.

Cosmopolitan mix

Your choice of vodka

Lemon

1 tbs of granulated sugar

Make sure glasses are well chilled.

Cut lime in slices and squeeze a little around the rim of the glasses.

Sprinkle the sugar lightly along the edges (the juice from the lime will allow it to stick).

Place three parts Cosmopolitan mix over crushed ice in a shaker to one part vodka.

Shake and pour into glasses filling to the brim.

P.S. - You can add your own twist to just about any martini. A wide variety of mixes and flavoured vodka are available in most supermarkets. You can mix them with cranberry or orange juice and create your own original cocktail.

Have a happy holiday and drink responsibly.
