Take them and we become Haiti
The Editor, Sir:

I understand that this is a traumatic time for Haiti and undoubtedly the saddest thing that can happen to any country. Jamaica must not, however, take on the responsibility of hosting Haitians. I know this doesn't sound too good with the disaster and everything, and I know that this is the time to give a 'helping-hand' and be a good neighbour, but Jamaica's plate is full!

We have a spiralling crime rate that we have been struggling to get under control for quite some time now; our unemployment rate has been increasing at a speedy rate; we are plagued with taxes and some of us have little or no disposable income; we are buried in debt and our lives are far from where we would want it to be.

The last thing we need is Haiti's problem to deal with right now.

I am, etc.,
