LETTER OF THE DAY: The predicament of investors in gov't bonds
The Editor, Sir:The Government has shown nothing but poor financial management skills and a poor appreciation for financial planning in their handling of the country's affairs.

Prayer and national challenges
The Editor, Sir: Some Jamaicans contend that prayer is not enough to tackle the problems and challenges of this nation.

Let's be humane
The Editor, Sir: In the Gleaner, of January 20, there were two opposing points of view regarding Jamaica accepting Haitian refugees.

Take them and we become Haiti
The Editor, Sir: I understand that this is a traumatic time for Haiti and undoubtedly the saddest thing that can happen to any country. Jamaica must not, however, take on the responsibility of hosting Haitians.

That devastating petrol tax
The Editor, Sir:The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration has imposed an additional tax on all petrol products effective January 1, which is having a devastating effect on the cost of living of all Jamaicans.

Cash for gold?
The Editor, Sir:This is a practice that Jamaicans don't need to get involved in because this business can become dangerous, and even deadly.

The onus on students sitting exams
The Editor, Sir:I very much appreciated Peter Espeut's column of January 15, 'Change the System', on poor CSEC results which should be addressed, in general, by fixing the classroom rather than dumbing down the exam.

NOTE-WORTHY
Your editorial on the need for CARICOM to take a leading role in the reconstruction of Haiti is spot on.
