A mouth-watering encounter is anticipated when second-place Rae Town travel to Excelsior High School to tackle third-place Mountain View in today's feature match of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Claro Super League, starting at 3 p.m.
The two teams, which played to a 0-0 draw in their first-round encounter, are the most offensive in the league. Mountain View, who sit four points adrift of their opponents, will enter the game as favourites as they have gone unbeaten since the start of the second round. They have notched up wins in their opening four second- round games, while scoring 16 goals and conceding four.
latest victory
Their latest victory was a 4-1 triumph over Constant Spring, with their leading goal-poacher, Troyland Williams, scoring a hat- trick. Williams, however, picked up an injury during training and will miss the game, along with captain Jahmiah Pettigrew.
Mountain View's coach, Omar Stanley, said: "We really want to win every game that we have left and Rae Town is no exception. We're not going to take them lightly because we know the quality they possess, but outside of that we do not intend to lose at our home," he added.
Rae Town have scored 34 goals this season, the most in the league and four more than Mountain View. They are, however, coming off some disappointing results as they played to a 0-0 draw with seventh-place Real Mona in their last outing; and suffered a 0-4 home loss to Constant Spring in the game which preceded that.
They will be looking to their leading goalscorer, Damion Jackson, to lead them back to winning ways. His tally so far this season of 14 goals is the most by any player in the league.
Michael Francis, coach of Rae Town, said: "We have to get ourselves organised as we are going to play a very tactical game. We know the Mountain View team is a very hard-running team; therefore, we are going to have to adjust ourselves to the running they are going to do."
Cavalier lead the standings on 34 points, with Rae Town (32) sitting second. They are followed by Mountain View (28), Santos (28), Jamaica Defence Force (25), Constant Spring (24), Real Mona (21), Barbican (16), Bull Bay (12), Duhaney Park (seven), Meadhaven United (six) and Maverley/ Hughenden (four).
