THE PARENT company of the Jamaican firm Red Stripe has shipped 45,000 pounds of food and emergency supplies to Haiti.
This is part of a major relief effort launched by Diageo through its temporary Spirit of the Americas Fund and the Diageo's Giving for Good site.
The shipment included new World Health Organisation-sanctioned emergency health kits.
The health kits contain enough materials to provide basic medical care to more than 10,000 people for 90 days, which will be critical as every hospital in Haiti was either damaged or destroyed by the earthquake.
Diageo will also be sending food supplies, including beans, rice and cooking oil.
In addition, a Red Stripe Haiti Relief Fund has been set up at the Desnoes & Geddes Co-operative Credit Union to receive contributions from Red Stripe staff members who have vowed to make voluntary contributions.
