Colouring Jesus
The Editor, Sir:

With reference to Devon Dick's column 'Bleaching Jesus' (December 24), this subject (of Jesus' colour) comes up now and again. I don't know why, as His message is colour neutral - unless you want to make an issue that it is usually printed in black ink on white paper. Whatever!

Consider this: His mother was an Israelite and a Jewess (believer in what is now called Judaism). To the best of my knowledge, most Israelis/Jews are not considered persons of colour. And please remember His father is God/Holy Ghost to whom, as I understand it, no racial characteristics have been ascribed.

With this last point in mind, one can easily understand why Caucasians would perceive a Caucasian Jesus, blacks would perceive a negroid Jesus, Chinese an Asian (Mongoloid) Jesus and no doubt Jews a Jewish one.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanu-kkah, and a cheerful Kwanzaa.

I am, etc.,
