Despite the rains, Naseve from Portmore was the last automobile sound system 'standing' at Sound Ruption 2-4-1 at Jarrett Park, Montego Bay, recently.
The main event saw five 'heavyweight' auto sound systems from various sections of the island trading tunes for the title 'Best of the Best'. The other event, 'Best of the West', had eight entrants from western Jamaica facing off.
"It wasn't easy. But I was prepared," said an elated Ripton 'Naseve' Wedderburn, whose '97 Blue Toyota Surf took top honours in the feature event - Best of Best.
Naseve outclassed previous winner White Camry from Ocho Rios, St Ann, and second-place winner, Sniper from Clarendon to get its first lien on the coveted title.
"White Camry never mek it to the finals," said Wedderburn. "The sound kept tripping out. Dem never did dem homework," he continued.
Wedderburn, who hails from Braeton, said that during his set, he received a "standing ovation" from the audience on hand and it was smooth sailing after that.
"It was a walk in the park ... . I had the dubs to do the job and the crowd was behind me all the way," he said.
Wedderburn said he was disappointed that Japanese sound system Yumi was a no-show, but the results would have remained the same.
"Me ready for the next clash. Anywhere ... from any sound," he said.
The other event, Best of the West, saw Crackie taking the honours over Cool Zone.
Organiser Kingsley Scott said while the rains had prevented several patrons from turning out, the show had to go on.
"We are already planning for next year's staging," he said.
"It will be on May 23, 2010, and opened to all sound-system operators," he added.
