Western Bureau:

Unruly spectators invaded the Bamboo playing field in Hanover on Sunday afternoon, forcing a premature end to the much-anticipated The Captain's Bakery & Grill Western Super League football game between the home team and parish neighbours Montpelier.

With the home team enjoying a 2-1 lead, the referee awarded a penalty to Montpelier in the 82nd minute. The decision infuriated the Bamboo supporters, who immediately invaded the field, hurling abuse at the match officials and preventing the penalty from being taken.

"The Bamboo fans refused to leave the field, claiming that the referee was wrong in awarding the penalty against their team," said Alonzo Pessoa, the assistant coach of Montpelier. "We never did anything wrong so we believe we should be awarded the full points from this game."

While Bamboo were having their troubles, Seba United and Reno FC - with whom they shared the lead going in Sunday's round of matches - are now joint leaders of the competition.

Seba defeated Wadadah 4-1 in their game at Jarrett Park, while Reno blanked Petersfield 2-0 at Petersfield Community Centre.

In other games played on Sunday, Violet Kickers registered their first win of the season, surprising Exodus 2-0 in their game at the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) playing field in Montego Bay.

Frome also registered a surprise 2-1 win against former champions Granville at Frome Sports Ground, while newcomers Catherine Hall and Prosper played to a 1-1 draw in their game at Rusea's High School in Hanover.

In the big Montego Bay derby at Jarrett Park, Seba United handed Wadadah their fifth defeat in six games, spanking them 4-1. Victory came courtesy of a Kemar James hat-trick and a single strike from Omar Reid.

Easy win

"It was an easy win for us as Wadadah are clearly not the team of former years," said Kareen Kelly, the administrator of the Seba United team. "We are happy for the three points as it keeps us on top of the standings."

In their game against Petersfield, Reno made it five wins from six starts when they snatched victory courtesy of a beautiful header by Davion Thorpe and a Petersfield defender, who inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper.

With six rounds of matches completed in the 12-team competition, the standings read as follows: Seba United 16 points, Reno 16, Frome 14, Bamboo 13, Catherine Hall eight, Granville six, Exodus six, Montpelier five, Exodus four, Petersfield four, Wadadah three, and Prosper one.
