Administrators at PepsiCo have criticised deejay Beenie Man for performing an anti-gay song at a Ugandan concert sponsored by the soft drink giant.

In a statement released last Friday, PepsiCo said: "We are appalled by the performer's lyrics and find them repugnant. Our bottling partner in Uganda was not aware of the performer's views and never would have sponsored the concert with this knowledge."

Mi Nah Wallah, which contains a line about cutting the throats of gay men, was the offensive song Beenie Man allegedly performed December 5 at the Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala, the Ugandan capitol.

Beenie Man is one of several Jamaican dancehall acts targeted by gay-rights activists in Europe and North America for their verbal attacks against homosexuals.

Recently, a show promoter in New Zealand dropped Beenie Man from its festival after protests by gay groups in that country.
