Hanover student slain in school attack
Western Bureau:

The school term will end on a sad note for Rhodes Hall High School in Orange Bay, Hanover, following yesterday's fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old student, allegedly by two schoolmates.

The dead boy has been identified as ninth-grade student Romando Chin, of Lucea, Hanover. His attackers have been taken into police custody.

"The teachers are not doing very well; the guidance counsellor is with them," said Loreen Aljoe, principal of the school. "Those of the students I spoke with, some of them were crying."

Problem student

She said Chin was a problem student who often got into disputes with other students and had a poor attendance record. However, she said he had recently been making attempts to improve his behaviour.

"He was coming around, but I think the other students resented him because he had bullied them," added Aljoe.

Reports are that sometime after 12 p.m., Chin got into an altercation with two other boys outside the school gate. It is said that he was chased to a container used as a shop along the main road.

One of the boys allegedly dragged Chin out of the shop, and the other stabbed him in the chest with a knife. Chin was taken to the Noel Holmes Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
