Several stores in the heart of Kingston are ready for customers who will be participating in tomorrow's grand shopping extravaganza dubbed 'Christmas in the City: Downtown Comes Alive'.

Through this venture, shoppers will be able to enjoy adjusted prices, with discounts of up to 50 per cent, as storeowners strive to answer persons' needs for a merry Christmas despite the global recession.

Jeff Anderson, store manager at Lerner Shops, said it was a good way to build the city.

"We want good things to happen in the city to keep it going, which will, in turn, contribute to happier people, because downtown is the cheapest in any part of Jamaica," he said.

Shoppers will be able to benefit from a 20-50 per cent sale on clothing items for the entire family at Lerner Shops.

Manager of Joseph's, Elie Bsat, is just as receptive to the shopping spree.

He said he was hoping to get people to realise that it is a safe shopping area despite the negative image sometimes painted of the city.

Already, shoppers are enjoying the 20 per cent discount offered by Joseph's on clothing, accessories and household items.

Store manager at Manhattan House, Danielle Chatani, said while she hoped the low prices would benefit the customers, the main aim was to establish unity in the city.
