Carl Gilchrist, Gleaner Writer

The death toll from Monday night's two-bus collision on the Llandovery main road in St Ann has risen to five.

The St Ann police have confirmed that a woman died yesterday morning at the Cornwall Regional Hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

She has been identified as 33-year-old dressmaker Andrene Nugent of Sturge Town in St Ann.

Three persons, including the driver of one of the buses, died Monday night, while another died the following morning at the St Ann's Bay Hospital.

The other victims had previously been identified as 34-year-old driver, Gregory Davis of Eltham, and 65-year-old Samela Newell of Runaway Bay, both in St Ann; 20-year-old Ricardo Coleman and his sister Christina Coleman, both of Arnett Gardens.

27 still hospitalised

Twenty-seven persons remain in hospital as a result of the accident that occurred when the driver of a Toyota Hiace passenger bus reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a cow and crashed head-on into another bus going in the opposite direction.

Corporal Patrick Josephs of the St Ann police traffic department is leading the investigations into the accident.
