Lyns Trial: More delays
The trial of the two men charged with the murder of elderly Manchester couple Richard and Julia Lyn could not proceed yesterday because one of the accused men wants an expert witness to testify for him.

Lennox Swaby, 28, farmer and taxi driver, of Hopeton district, Manchester, wants the expert to testify in relation to evidence led by the Crown that his shoe impression was found at the murder scene.

An adjournment was granted on Wednesday until yesterday to allow Swaby sufficient time to get the witness, who was said to be off the island.

contact made

When the men were brought before the court yesterday, attorney-at-law Dr Randolph Williams, who is representing Swaby, said he made contact with the expert yesterday.

Dr Williams said the expert was in the island but would not be available before Monday.

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh granted the application for an adjournment.

charged

Swaby and 26-year-old garbage-truck driver Calvin Powell, of New Green, Manchester, are charged with the double murder.

The Crown, represented by prosecutors Lisa Palmer Hamilton and Claudette Thompson, has led evidence in the Home Circuit Court that the couple were strangled between December 9 and 10 during a robbery at their home.

Items belonging to the couple were allegedly found in the possession of the accused men.
