I thought I had seen just about everything that the new breed of taxi 'drivas' could and would do, and was unprepared for this latest 'most daring' stunt.

Recently on Waterloo Road (which seems to be the place to be these days), while driving in the left lane in heavy traffic to turn left on South Avenue, I heard a loud horn..."Beep! Beep! Beep!!!" which inexplicably, seemed to be coming directly from my left! And there it was: a taxi driving alongside my car, a taxi which had just climbed the sidewalk behind my car and was driving on the pavement so that he could turn on South Avenue in front of the line of traffic and get there first.

He did just that and climbed back down on to the road on South Avenue, re-entering the traffic from the sidewalk, as if it was no big deal. The taxi was loaded with passengers who I think were probably expressing their undying (hopefully) admiration and awe of this amazing 'driva'.

Just another day for us down in paradise.

ACP Les Green vindicated!

Recall when Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green spoke out against the rampant corruption in the Jamaica Constabulary Force. He has shown up some dirty ways in this country which need to be washed in water and maybe even detergent, because we have since seen at least four examples of the same acts he spoke about.

It is so amazing in Jamaica how we play the hypocrite day in and day out, and in the pursuit to cover up the obvious maladies, are looked upon like fools by the rest of the world.

We must take a stand against the hoodlums parading as police personnel. It cannot be said any other way. There are some persons being paid by the public who clearly are acting against the interest of the public. Instead of carrying out the mantra "to serve, protect and reassure", we are left with self-service, incompetence and a reaffirmation of the embedded corruption in the force.

Kudos to the man from England who flew so far and spoke, to our shame, on a matter so well known to all but no one ever thought it important enough to speak about.
