I agree with Steve Smith's comments on how to rescue Air Jamaica so that it remains Jamaican. A few weeks ago, I made similar suggestions that the airline should be handed over to the pilots who have shown an interest in its ownership. They should, on acquiring it, sell shares to Jamaicans throughout the diaspora; even schoolchildren will want to be part of a Jamaican business venture.
Poor policymakers
Why is it that everything Jamaican has to be sold to non-Jamaicans? Jamaica has bred politicians who are brilliant speech makers but very poor policymakers. This needs no supporting argument as one only need to see the state of Jamaica and listen the flowery speeches that continue to flow from the mouths of politicians.
Persons offer themselves and are elected to represent the citizens by promoting the good for all concerned but in Jamaica it is different; this concept is missing. Political leaders have over the years failed to make right decisions, relying on advice from commissions that work behind the scenes without consultations with the general public. The divestment of Air Jamaica is an example of one such commission.
Jamaica a democratic country
Democracy is often defined as "government of the people by the people for the people". Jamaica is designated a democratic country; the people of Jamaica are asking that the Government invoke this concept.
