A policeman operating at the Hope Road, St Andrew, entrance to Jamaica House was yesterday attacked by a knife-wielding man seeking audience with Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
The policeman was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injury.
Both National Security Minister Dwight Nelson and the police confirmed the incident. Nelson said late yesterday that he had received a preliminary report on the attack.
Jamaica House is the administrative seat of the prime minister.
Nelson told The Gleaner that a lone man approached the main gate and attempted to enter the premises.
When he was prevented from doing so by the policeman he used the knife to cut the lawman.
Last night, the police said the man remained in custody but had not yet been charged.
