Mark Cameron launches art exhibition at Hilton

Cameron

Artist Mark Cameron launched his solo art exhibition in the lobby of the Hilton hotel in New Kingston on November 17th. The exhibition will run until December 11.

The Hilton poolside offered the perfect setting for the launch party which was well attended by art lovers. Mark Cameron has moved past his landscapes into impressionism and abstract with his current exhibits. His subjects include Bill Cosby and Marilyn Monroe and an impressionistic piece of the late James Brown and reggae king Bob Marley. His diverse and international approach to art has brought collectible, refreshing pieces to the Jamaican art scene.

Mark Cameron's journey began in the late 1980's when he left the School of Visual Arts to pursue his career in graphic design at his company in San Diego, Innovative Concepts.

He then went on to stage one of the largest art shows in California titled Days of Art in Oceanside California, spawning the opening of his restaurant/gallery where he displayed his art while patrons dined on a Cajun Jamaican menu in the Caribbean Grill, Oceanside California.

When asked about his return to Jamaica, Cameron stated that, although he was well accepted in his adopted home of Oceanside, his sense of belonging and being around his own people meant a lot to him, and aside from the obvious challenges of living in Jamaica, he preferred to share his talents tutoring beginners, as well as other artists, helping them to expand their art experiences, at his Mandeville home studio.
