Distressing juror-bribery reports
The Editor, Sir:

Our legal system has come a far way despite the arguments that some of our laws are outdated. The recent allegation of two jurors being caught accepting money from the family member of an accused in a murder trial has stirred me up so much that I have decided to write this letter.

Such an act was intended to alter the outcome of the trial and I strongly believe that such a revelation is evidence that we need to revise the Jury Act.

very disturbed

I am really disturbed that some of us in this beloved country, which we call home, have grown so cold that we would prefer to accept money rather than to stand up for justice, which we have pledged to do before God and all mankind.

While it is the duty of the juror to listen to the evidence and to assist the courts in determining the outcome of trials, some jurors would rather live to 'eat a food' than to crave justice and the law. Corruption has saturated our society and it appears that it has found a perfect anchor in almost every sector of our society - from our House of Representatives to the citizens, even some of the most esteemed professionals.

I wonder if there will be any hope for the future if we continue along this path? We are heading in a destructive direction and we need to change gears, pull up our socks and purge our minds of these unbecoming thoughts. Money is essential but it does not mean that we should discard standards that contradict good morals and values.

I am, etc.,
