Bellefield High schoolboy Kemoy Campbell, and Stacey Bell of G.C. Foster College, are the champions of the 2009 Burger King/Jamdammers Road Race Series.

In Sunday's final race, the Burger King 10K in Portmore, Campbell ended the season with a perfect five from five while Bell, who only won the first race, but had good finishes throughout, held on for the women's crown.

Campbell won Sunday's race in 31 minutes and 33 seconds to finish with the maximum 50 points, beating Kirk Brown (42 points) and Shawn Pitter (39) for the overall title. Campbell said the race was easy as he liked running in the sun, but overall, it was hectic.

"I trained towards it (series) and I won it pretty easy, so it was a breeze for me," he said of the series.

Rupert Green was the second-place finisher in Portmore in 32:30 seconds, while Brown and Pitter were third and fourth, respectively, in Sunday's event in 32:55 and 33:36 seconds.

Natoya Goule, who failed to finish last week's Holland Bamboo 6K because of abdominal pains, dominated the final race to finish in 39 mins and three seconds.

"This race was very great ... I love this race, because, while running, I felt the energy to move forward ... I really regret last weekend's race, but it's God's will ... ." Goule said.

However, Bell, winner of the first event - Ministry of Health 5K in Half-Way Tree, did what was needed, taking second in 40 minutes six seconds.

Bell took top honours with 45 points, beating her schoolmate Twishana Williams, who was third on Sunday in 40:41.

A pleased Bell said, "I feel very grateful, and I thank God for this overall win."

Tanice Barnett, winner of the previous race, dropped out at the 5K mark complaining of fatigue.

Youth Championships

Rogeek Rochester of Manchester High and Amoya Bailey took the Youth Championships (17 and under).

Linton McKenzie and Sonia Gayle took the masters men's and women's sections.

Holmwood's boys, and the girls from Edwin Allen, are the high-school champions.

Holmwood finished ahead of Edwin Allen and Bellefield in the boys' section, while Edwin Allen's girls topped Holmwood and Manchester High.

The series is a build-up to the Reggae Marathon and Half Marathon, scheduled for Negril on December 5.
