Lyns Trial - Forensic analysts weigh in

The badly decomposed bodies of Manchester couple Richard and Julia Lyn were identified by their dental records.

Dr Errol Williams, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, made the disclosure yesterday when he testified at the trial of the two men charged with the Lyns' murder.

They are Lennox Swaby, 28, farmer and taxi driver of Hopeton district, Manchester and Calvin Powell, 26, garbage truck driver, of New Green, Manchester.

The couple went missing between December 9 and 10, 2006. The bodies were found at the Martin's Hill dump on December 30, 2006.

Dr Williams testified in the Home Circuit Court yesterday that in January 2007, he received X-rays of the Lyns' dental records and two lower and two upper jawbones. He said he X-rayed the jawbones and compared them with the X-rays of the dental records and found they matched.

Stains everywhere

Dr Judith Mowatt, director of the government forensic laboratory, said on December 12, 2006, she went to the crime scene in Mandeville and observed bloodstains in various locations in the house. She took fibres and swabs from the blood stains for testing.

She said on December 20, 2006, she received a taped length of a shoe print allegedly taken from the dining-room floor of the crime scene. She also received a pair of black shoes and found that the right foot of the shoe had several points in common with the shoe print that had been lifted from the floor.

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh is presiding at the trial, which began on October 5.
