Scotiabank picked up 10 awards at the recent KSAFA/Western Sports Business House Football Association awards ceremony at the Scotiabank Sports Club, Liguanea.
In addition to the the night's top award, the Division I championship trophy, which was received by captain Damion Gordon from Resic Hanson, operations manager of Western Sports, Scotiabank also won awards for Coach of the Year (Calvert Fitzgerald), five-a-side Pronto Cup champions, most prepared team of the season, joint leading scorer (Nicholas McCreath) with Carib Cement's Fabian Nethersole; MVP of the final (Norway Knight) and winning manager Division I (Diane Polack).
Meanwhile, knockout champions Carib Cement won this award along with the Challenge Trophy, which is played for annually between the league and KO champions.
Carib Cement picked up additional awards for the best attacking team in Division I, while Petrojam picked up awards for having emerged Division II champions, best attacking team, Aphas Bernard MVP of the final, winning manager Robert Blake, while they shared the award for best defensive team with Norman Manley International Airport. The Fair Play award went to GraceKennedy.
The Gleaner shared the best defensive team award with Carib Cement and NWC. The 'newsmen' also picked up the Division I league runners-up award for the second straight year.
Nubian Construction's Winston Elliott copped the award as overall Manager of the Year, while the Referee of the Year award went to Wilverglen Lamey and the Assistant Referee award to Omar Mills.
Former prime minister, Edward Seaga, was presented with the distinguished Abe Alexander award for his contribution to football.
Guest speaker was Ian Forbes, managing director of Sherwin Williams, who said that "promoting recreational activities for the staff of Business Houses is a no-lose situation".
He said much more can, and needs, to be done.
"We need to raise the bar for corporate sports to new heights," he added.
Broilers beat LIME to reach 35-over final
Jamaica Broilers defeated arch-rivals LIME by six wickets in the St Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners-sponsored Business House 35-over competition at Spring Village last week Sunday, to advance to the final.
Batting first, LIME made 135 for nine off their allotted 35 overs - Fitzroy Peterkin 45 not out, Dave Johnson 31; Nicoy Lindo 3-12, Andre Russell 3-15. Jamaica Broilers replied with 139 for four - national player Keith Hibbert 67, Robert Turner 23, Mariano Dixon 20; Yannick Elliott 2-16.
AT KENSINGTON PARK: National Water Commission defeated Sagicor by eight wickets in a Best Dressed Chicken 30-over KO match. Sagicor 129 off 25 overs - Adrian Bartley 44, Dwayne Ewart 25; Carol Francis 2-11, Garwain Johnson 2-15. NWC 132 for two - Duran Whyte 34, Domain Wilson 29, Oneil Wright 24 not out.
Matches on today are Jamaica Broilers vs Jamalco in the Reggae Jammin 50-over league at Spring Village, and Digicel vs Sagicor at Kensington Park in the Best Dressed 30-over KO competition, starting at 11 a.m.
Scotiabank retain Inter-Bank football cup
Defending champions Scotiabank won yet another football title this season when they blanked JNBS 4-0 in the Norman Goodison Inter-Bank football final at the NWC playing field, Mona, last week Sunday.
Led by a hat-trick from striker Richard West, Scotiabank led 2-0 at half-time, with West and Nicholas McCreath scoring in the 13th and 25 minutes, West from a Donovan Hibbert cross.
The former Harbour View and Tivoli Gardens premier league player netted his second goal in the 48th minute, completing the hat-trick in the 89th. Scotiabank's Stephan Bartley emerged the league's leading scorer with seven goals.
The presentation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 18, at the Scotiabank Sports Club, Liguanea.
