Taylor aiming for top-10 ICC spot

Stafanie Taylor

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC):

With a chance to break into the top-10 of the International Cricket Council's batting rankings looming, prolific teenage West Indies opener Stafanie Taylor will be hoping to extend her form when she lines up against England in the pending three-match One-Day International series.

The 18-year-old right-hander lies just outside the top 10 after racing to 11th spot following a healthy series against the Proteas last month, and knows a similar fruitful time against the World Cup and Twenty20 champions could catapult her among the best in the world.

"It feels really good to know that I have moved up the rankings and it feels good to know that I am so close to the top 10 now," Taylor said.

"Before we went to South Africa I said my goal was to get good scores so I could move up the rankings and also to help the team to win.

"I achieved part of that, but I know I still have some work to do. I want to get better and better and I also want to be part of a team where we can play consistently and also challenge for victory."

Top player

Though the Windies lost the series against South Africa, the impressive Jamaican won the Player-of-the-Series award thanks to a brilliant, unbeaten 108 in the opening one-dayer - her maiden international century.

She contested both the 50-over World Cup in Australia and the Twenty20 World Cup in England earlier this year, where she was also outstanding.

Taylor is also a tidy of off-spinner and said she was keen on also improving this area of her game.

"I am at a level now where I am pretty happy," she said.

"My control has improved and even when I don't get wickets I am able to prevent the opponents from scoring. I just want to get better and this series is a good opportunity."

West Indies met England in the first ODI yesterday at Warner Park, followed by subsequent matches today and on Saturday at the same venue.
