LYN'S TRIAL - Judge pleads for jurors' patience
Barbara Gayle, Staff Reporter

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh has called on the 12-member jury to have patience because of the frequent adjournments at the trial of the two men charged with the murder of Manchester couple, Richard and Julia Lyn.

There was an early adjournment yesterday as some of the witnesses who were scheduled to testify were not available. The trial is to continue tomorrow because there will be no sitting today.

The judge asked the jurors to be patient and not to give up, get fed up or disgruntled as a result of the matter taking longer than they expected.

After hearing evidence yesterday from Detective Sergeant Pat Wallace, that he was present when a pair of shoes was taken from the feet of the accused Lennox Swaby on December 16, 2006, the judge had to adjourn at 11 a.m.

The Crown is alleging that an impression from the right foot of Swaby's shoe was found inside the couple's house on December 10, 2006.

Swaby, 28, farmer and taxi driver of Hopeton district, Manchester, and 26-year-old Calvin Powell, garbage truck driver of New Green, Manchester, have been on trial in the Home Circuit Court since October 5 for the double murder.

The Lyns were strangled at their home at 14 Battersea Avenue, Mandeville, during a robbery between December 9 and 10, 2006.
