Jamaica's chances of a semi-final berth were left hanging by a thread yesterday when persistent rain forced the abandonment of their second-round WICB President's Cup against Combined Campuses and Colleges.
Just 12.1 overs were possible at Bourda before rain drove players from the field at 10:12 a.m. with CCC on 41 for two, after winning the toss and choosing to bat.
Both teams received a point for the abandonment, leaving CCC with four points following their first-round victory over the Windward Islands on Wednesday and Jamaica with a single point after they were beaten by Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match.
AT PROVIDENCE: Zone B bottom-of-the-table teams Leeward Islands and West Indies Under-19s endured another setback when their rain-hit second-round match was abandoned as a no-result. Rain stopped play for the day at 9:39 a.m. local time after just six overs with the Leewards, electing to bat, on 37 without loss.
The Leewards and Windies U-19s were already coming off losses in Wednesday's opening matches and remain stuck at the floor of the zone standings with one point each, trailing leaders Guyana (8) and Barbados (4).
AT ALBION: Guyana defeated Barbados by seven wickets.
Scores: Barbados 231 for nine off 49 overs (Sulieman Benn 39, Khalid Springer 35, Kirk Edwards 32, Ryan Hinds 31, Jonathan Carter 24; Davendra Bishoo 3-30, Veerasammy Permaul 3-54, Esuan Crandon 2-34). Guyana 236 for three 42.1 overs (Narsingh Deonarine 102 not out, Shivnarine Chanderpaul 38 not out, Travis Dowlin 38, Ramnaresh Sarwan 33).
At Uitvlugt: The second-round match between Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands ended in a no-result. Wet conditions created by overnight and early morning rain, as well as intermittent showers throughout the day, forced the match to be abandoned without a ball bowled.
