Calabar-JC showdown at MacKay Invitational
Ainsley Walters, Gleaner Writer

THE high schools' showdown is once again expected to take centre stage at today's McKay Security black belt invitational and junior taekwondo tournament, starting at 8 a.m. at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, University of Technology (UTech).

Oshane Murray-led Calabar need only a draw at the tournament to salvage a sporting year gone bad for the Red Hills Road lads.

Calabar are also looking to maintain bragging rights over Jamaica College (JC). However, the Dominic Young-led Blues are proven upsetters and are gunning to turn the tables on Calabar, winners of the Jamaica Tae kwon do Open earlier this year. Young and Ackeem Lawrence are members of the national tae kwon do team and their experience will have Calabar battling for every round.

The seniors will also be out in their numbers after earning competition cards based on performances in the Busta League this season and will square-off in three male divisions - lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight.

Kenneth Edawrds is expected to start favourite in the heavyweight division, going up against Shiah Shukura out of Montego Bay and wildcard entrant Kevin McDowell of Sidekick Tae kwon do.
