The East Central St Catherine netball and football corner league competitions will come to a close at the Sligoville Mini Stadium today.

Spectators will see defending champions Tryall Heights playing Walks Road for the Natalee Neita-Headley Trophy and top prize money of $75,000. The runners-up will get $50,000.

In the netball finals Barcelona will compete against Hot Stepper for the top prize of $65,000, while the second-place team will pocket 40,000. There will be other sectional prizes.

The competition, which is in its third year, is being held to engage the many communities in recreational activities and foster peace and goodwill for all.

Competition

Sport Development Foun-dation coordinator, Donovan McKenzie, said the competition started with 80 netball teams and 40 football teams from different areas in the division.

"We think that the games played help to get different types of residents together, who would gather and cheer their teams on. It builds a good vibe for all to enjoy,'' McKenzie told The Gleaner.

He said there will be prize money totalling $330,000 for teams that finish in the top four of the competition.

A number of persons who spoke with The Gleaner say the competition has been very good for the community and it is hoped that it gets bigger next year.

"We are glad that something positive is being done at the stadium as it needs to be used regularly to keep the community entertained," said one resident of the community, Omar Bancroft.
