On Friday, October 30, Simon Crosskill, on his Morning Time TV show, made what, in my humble opinion, was a subtle but somewhat disgusting remark, in response to an answer that Christopher Martin gave to a question he, Simon, had asked earlier.
Crosskill had asked him how he coped with his popularity at college, and Martin said that it was now four years since he had been at school, therefore people had got used to him being there. Crosskill said: "Four years? What are you studying?" Martin said "finance" and Crosskill said "Good choice, good choice."
Too dark
At the same time he was searching for the morning paper to read how Patrick Casserly was now being considered for the Senate, possibly to join the Ministry of Finance eventually. And Crosskill jokingly said to Martin, "Maybe you could get that job, but, but, but, I think you are a little too dark."
Remarks like that, Mr Crosskill, are part of what is causing much of our social upheaval, in terms of class division among our people, and people feel like they are better than the next person all because they inherit a lighter skin tone. Herein lies the root for the bleaching phenomenon that is now a part of our social landscape.
The young and the not so young try to look 'brown' so that they can be socially accepted.
