I would like to know what is the governor general's position on casino gambling, horse racing, hanging, homosexuals and lesbians. I would also like to know whether there is not a contradiction in his being a Seventh-day Adventist and the Queen's representative (who is officially the head of the Anglican church) in Jamaica. I also believe there is a Governor General's Cup for horse racing at Caymanas Park; will the title be changed?
These questions are being asked by members of various denominations, and SDA members would like to give some intelligent answers.

I totally disagree with Chris Berry's letter published in your paper dated October 30 under the headline 'Athletes should not be taxed'. Athletes should pay their fair share of taxes just as any other citizen. They enjoy all the benefits that the tax dollar provides, i.e., health, education for their children, road, fire department, law enforcement, etc.
We have citizens who are not as fortunate as some athletes, yet they have to pay tax. That is where the Government gets the revenue to run the country.

I read with some interest the suggestion by Mark Golding that Jamaica should support a regional currency. My question is: how? Jamaica is currently the weakest economy in the Caribbean & Latin America, according to an IMF report. Is this one avenue of trying to get rid of our monetary instability by disguising our weaknesses under some regional universal currency?
We first have to work off our own internal economic problems in order to give support. Apart from Trinidad, we are the ones with the resources for a long-term support of such ventures.
Why is no one talking of making the Jamaican dollar subject to fiat and not to moving rates of exchange? Maybe that is what should occupy our political masters, as much of our internal problems lie in that direction and dollarisation is not the answer.
