LETTER OF THE DAY - Women can do more to stem violence
The Editor, Sir: At the risk of earning the ire of my sisters, I wish to express the view that women can do far more to stem the tide of gun violence in Jamaica. Before I continue, I must pay tribute to my sisters who are part of the solution and not the problem.

I would like to know what is the governor general's position on casino gambling, horse racing, hanging, homosexuals and lesbians. I would also like to know whether there is not a contradiction in his being a Seventh-day Adventist and the Queen's representative (who is officially the head of the Anglican church) in Jamaica.

The Editor, Sir: Despite the criticisms of People's National Party president, Portia Simpson Miller, I believe she is a rare gift to Jamaica. She is a charismatic, astute visionary who cares deeply about the people and the future of Jamaica.
Talk-show hosts are killing us
The Editor, Sir:This country needs a respite from negative lambasting day in and day out, morning, noon and night - emanating from the electronic and print media. We are talking ourselves into death without knowing it.
Public health concerns
The Editor, Sir: A naturalised Jamaican made a shocking comment recently, and I am still chewing on it. He said that, based on his observation, Jamaica was almost at the level of Haiti. I expounded with a resounding "No".
Bad Crosskill joke?
The Editor, Sir: On Friday, October 30, Simon Crosskill, on his Morning Time TV show, made what, in my humble opinion, was a subtle but somewhat disgusting remark, in response to an answer that Christopher Martin gave to a question he, Simon, had asked earlier.<
