The Walker Cup KO schoolboy football competition will commence today with Bridgeport tackling Eltham High, followed by Jamaica College facing St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), in a double-header at the Constant Spring Football Field.

The first game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m., while the second is slated to start at 3p.m.

Bridgeport advanced to the Walker Cup after topping group E in the Manning Cup preliminaries. They dropped out in the quarter-finals of last season's competition, after suffering a 1-2 defeat to Excelsior, who were eventually crowned champions.

Eltham booked their place as the best second-placed team and they will be looking to improve on last year's performance, when they were beaten 1-2 by Excelsior in the semi-finals.

Bridgeport's coach, Anthony Patrick, is expecting a very good game.

"The last couple of years we have been lethargic, but this set of players is ready and really looking forward to it," Patrick said.

It is going to be a very good game as it is the St Catherine derby. We have met five times over the last couple of years with us winning two and them winning two, while one was drawn," he added.

Gregory Allen, the coach of Eltham, believes that once his team plays to instructions they will get the desired result.

"It is two quality teams so I am just hoping for the best. Once the guys play according to instructions and play positive we can reap the desired result," Allen said.

Quality player

Allen also believes that the first round top scorer, Darren Mattocks, deserves special attention.

"Mattocks is a quality player and once you are a quality player you will get noticed so we will have to do some good defensive work on him," Allen added.

JC topped Group A with 27 points, winning all but one of their games, while STATHS topped Group D with 22 points, courtesy of seven victories and a draw.

STATHS dropped out in the quarter-finals of last season's competition, losing to Calabar on penalties. JC suffered a 0-2 defeat in the semi-finals to Calabar, who finished as runners-up.
