The Pick-9 gets under way in the second race over 1100 metres. The Super-6, meanwhile, starts anew with the guaranteed minimum of $750,000. It embraces races five to 10.
We look at the Super-6, which kicks off with a two-year-old maiden condition race over 1100 metres to be contested by seven starters, four of whom will be racing for the first time.
Two of those with experience - MAJESTY and THE ONE - have shown definite signs of ability. The Philip Feanny-trained MAJESTY, a chestnut colt by Royal Minister out of Purple Heart, strikes me as the better of the two, even though running green to finish seven lengths sixth to INOJA on his recent debut. But he has looked sharper at exercise since, and with Lasix now administered, could recoup losses.
A trio of newcomers looked forward in their preparation and the winner could well emerge from this group. They include MARGIN CALL, a well-conformed bay colt by He'sthrealthing out of the Peacemaker Infinity, which makes him a half-brother to last year's Superstakes winner, AD INFINITUM, and Richard Azan's CLASSICAL BABE, a chestnut filly by Western Classic out of In Vogue.
Preference is for MARGIN CALL (Brian Harding up), who has looked the most forward of the three. He hails from the in-form stables of Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, who has been doing very well with his two-year-olds this season.
RED LION, a proven campaigner who gets the ideal trip in the sixth race over 1400 metres for high claimers, looks too light to lose with 50kg and Dick Cardenas aboard.
MARSHALL JIM, who has been knocking loudly at the door in recent weeks, holds the key to the seventh race over 1200 metres for maiden three-year-olds and up. The American 3-y-o gelding has finished close up to some very good horses in recent races, and back in action with only 51kg and smart apprentice Doushane Gordon aboard, looks a banker in the 13-strong field. SATAN'S RULE, the mount of female jockey Georgina Sergeon, should follow him home.
Three-time champion jockey Hubert Bartley, who recently resumed riding, should notch his first winner in four years aboard the well-prepared DOLLA WIN in the eighth race over 1100 metres (non-winners of three), in which MINERVA looks the principal danger in a field of 12. Then, take the recent runaway course winner SPACE FURY to repeat over a similar trip (1820 metres) in the ninth race for the Royal Dad Trophy, before closing off the programme with the highly thought of LORD ADMIRAL (working well) in the inaugural running of the Impulse Energy Drink 3-Y-O Sprint Trophy over 1300 metres. PATARA and GHOST RAPPER are twin dangers in a field of 13.
