Bolt for Bell/Ziadie Memorial

The 24th staging of the Bell/Ziadie Memorial football matches will be held today at Winchester Park, St George's College. In the opening game, a media invitational team will oppose a referee select team at 2:30p.m. In the second match, a St George's College Invitational team will tackle an entertainers, masters and celebrities team that will include world 100m and 200m record holder, Usain Bolt.

Every year, select individuals are honoured for their contribution to sports and music. This year's honourees are Jamaica senior cricket team fitness trainer, David Bernard Sr, who is also a former national footballer; Dr Winston Dawes, the former Jamaica Football Federation president; former referee Hughill Thompson; and Walter 'Blobba' Campbell, a St George's College old boy. Admission: adults $200 and children $100.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (CMC):

Jamaicans Tyrone Marshall and Ryan Johnson notched US Major League Soccer (MLS) goals with their teams Saturday night, Marshall's effort helping Seattle Sounders to an exciting win on the road. Seattle clinched a play-off spot by coming from behind to defeat the Kansas City Wizards 3-2 and Johnson got one of San Jose's goals as they drew 2-2 with Chivas USA.

Seattle became the first MLS expansion side since Chicago Fire in 1998 to claim a play-off spot in their inaugural season, with their win at the Wizards CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The experienced Marshall was scoring his second goal of the season and 15th of his 11-year MLS career.

HYDERABAD, India (CMC):

Teenager Adrian Barath cracked a marvellous half-century on debut, as sensational Trinidad and Tobago thumped the Eagles by 24 runs and stormed into the Champions League Twenty20 semis as the top League A team.

Scores: T&T 213-4 off 20 overs (Adrian Barath 63, Lendl Simmons 40, Williams Perkins 35, Navin Stewart 33 not out, Kieron Pollard 23); EAGLES 189-5 off 20 overs (Rilee Rossouw 44, Dillon du Preez 35, Boeta Dippenaar 33; Sherwin Ganga 2-25, Kieron Pollard 2-25).

"To score 200 runs was a great effort. We are now looking forward to the semis," winning captain Daren Ganga said after the match.

T&T topped League A of the second-round phase with six points and will remain in Hyderabad to tackle either Victoria or Cape Cobras in the semis.

WI women lose

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (CMC):

Veteran Pamela Lavine smashed a rapid 44 for West Indies but the Caribbean side slumped to a rare loss to South Africa in the second match of their four-match women's one-day international series yesterday.

Scores: West Indies 182-9 off 50 overs (Pamela Lavine 44, Stafanie Taylor 38, Shanel Daley 38 not out; Dane van Niekerk 3-25, Sunette Loubser 2-35). South Africa 186-3 off 40.5 overs (Mignon du Preez 68 not out, Alicia Smith 35 not out, Cri-Zelda Brits 31; Shakera Selman 1-21, Pamela Lavine 1-16, Stafanie Taylor 1-39).

Hinds B'dos skipper

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):

Batting all-rounder Ryan Hinds, who was Barbados captain two years ago, has been reinstated as the country's skipper for the WICB President's Cup starting later this month in Guyana. The 28-year-old left-hander, who has played 15 Tests and 14 one-day international matches for West Indies, will lead a 14-man squad that includes six players with West Indies senior team experience.

Hard-hitting Carlo Morris is in as wicketkeeper ahead of Patrick Browne, who has played five ODIs for West Indies.

NSW flog Somerset

HYDERABAD, India (CMC):

Opener David Warner blazed a rapid 40 and propelled New South Wales (NSW) to a fluent six-wicket whipping of Somerset with more than eight overs to spare in their Champions League Twenty20 Super 8 match yesterday. Sent to bat, Somerset were limited to just 111 for seven off their 20 overs and NSW responded with 112 for four off 11.5 overs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to rebound from their stinging loss to Trinidad and Tobago on Friday night.
