It was billed as a spectacle and in the end it turned out to be just that.

Bringing together past and current West Indies and Jamaica cricketers, and world and Olympic double sprint champion, Usain Bolt, the second staging of the Chris Gayle-led CJ Sports Pro 15/15 Cricket Extravaganza, gave cricket and sporting fans a treat and left many of them asking when will the next staging be held.

Charity event

The three-match 15-over-a-side charity event, which will donate sports gear, equipment and computers to a number of primary, all-age and high-school sports programmes, saw four invitational parish teams taking part with Gayle's Kingston and St Andrew All-Stars XI emerging champions after defeating Jerome Taylor's St Elizabeth All Stars XI in the final.

Kingston and St Andrew, led by Runako Morton, 44 not out and Wavell Hind, 41 not out, made 100 for three in reply to St Elizabeth's 97 for four. Ridley Jacobs top-scored with 42 not out against Corey Colleymore, 2-18.

"It went really well and credit must go to the players and fans for turning up in their numbers and joining in the effort to assist these needy schools," said Gayle, who was spectacularly bowled by Trelawny All Stars XI's Bolt in the second and most exciting game of the day.

"The aim is to have the event annually and get it bigger and better with more international players and schools benefiting, etc," he added.

The day's first game saw St Elizabeth defeating Xavier Marshall and Pedro Collins' St Ann All-Stars XI by 68 runs, while Kingston and St Andrew, which also included Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose, scraped by Ramnaresh Sarwan and Sulieman Benn's Trelawny by two wickets.

Good experience

Bolt, who made a 10-ball 13, inclusive of a four and a straight six off Gayle, spectacularly ran out Carlton Baugh Jr and took 1-37. He said the experience was good.

"I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Cricket is a game I love, ever since I was a child, and it was good to give back," said Bolt of the encounter which attracted a full house of close to 20,000 patrons.

Also on hand to witness the event were former West Indies stars Richie Richardson, Winston Benjamin and Dinanath Ramnarine, president of the West Indies Players' Association.
