I am writing this as an open letter to both the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) and the minister of national security.

I watched TVJ's footage of the horrific machete-chopping incident at Papine square and I certainly was not upset with them for showing it. Rather, I was horrified that no one was brave enough to even try and help the poor taxi driver ... not even one of his own colleagues who are always present in large numbers in that square!

Surely, in this violent land of ours, more crimes would be solved if the perpetrators could be as positively identified as this TVJ clip ensured. The whole idea of employing the expensive closed-circuit cameras is to give our crime fighters some help.

I am positive that the TVJ news anchor warned, beforehand, that the images would be very disturbing, therefore, the squeamish among us should not have watched. Kudos to TVJ for helping in our fight against these violent acts.

Commend TVJ

Surely, the BCJ and the Ministry of National Security should be commending TVJ for allowing them to identify at least one violent criminal.

Please don't give us the impression that it is wrong to identify those who wreak havoc on this beautiful land of ours ... especially when we catch them in the act.
