Spanish Town still lagging
Ryon Jones, Gleaner Writer

Spanish Town High beat Trench Town 2-0 in their Group C ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup match yesterday at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Victory lifted them to third on 13 points and they will need to close a six-point gap between themselves and second-place Calabar (19), who defeated Tarrant 8-0, if they are to qualify for the next round.

A double from Kenroy Powell, on the stroke of half-time and at the 58th minute, sealed the deal for Spanish Town.

Trench Town's Michealous Martin was shown a straight red card in the 63rd minute for an off-the-ball incident.

"It started from in the training ground," Powell said of his scoring success. "It is all about how we play and communicate with each other."

Excelsior (23) maintained their four-point lead in the group after securing a 2-0 win over Cumberland and look set for qualification to the next round.
