There were massive celebrations at the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon on Sunday.
The venue, which saw patrons dancing and prancing, came alive after Digicel Premier League new boys, Humble Lions, recorded a fighting 1-0 win over Boys' Town.
"The team showed character this afternoon, as after our disappointing 3-0 derby defeat last week, we needed to win back the hearts of the spectators, and that's what we did," said Humble Lions coach Christopher Bender.
The first-timers, who entered the match with a record of two losses and two draws, shared much of the possession throughout the sometimes rough and rugged encounter.
However, in the 63rd minute, things changed when midfielder Kimroy Davis latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the area and slammed powerfully into the roof of the goal.
The goal brought whistles, horns and musical renditions from the red, green and yellow-clad gathering and with it, Humble Lions' first three-pointer of the season.
Davis said he was happy to be the architect of such entertainment.
"I did it before in the Super League when I scored a number of important goals to get us to the Premier League, and today it felt like déja vu," said Davis.
First win
"It's especially pleasing also to know that the goal enabled us to secure our first win," Davis added.
The defeat was Boys' Town's first of the season after four pre-vious draws, and it left their coach Andrew Price dejected.
"Humble Lions wanted the game more than we did. We never played with any energy or intensity," said Price.
"Hats off to them, they deserved to win. They got the crowd into the game by scoring, and it was always going to be difficult to come back.
"We were hoping to get our first win today, but it's still early in the season. It's our first defeat and we will regroup," Price said.
