Coach Geoffrey Maxwell has admitted that Waterhouse are in serious trouble after home team St Georges Sports Club tightened the noose around their neck at Lynch Park, Portland, by blanking them 2-0 on Sunday.
A disappointed Maxwell blamed poor defensive work on the loss by his team, which is still without a point after five games in the Digicel Premier League football competition.
"Both goals were as a result of poor defending," said Maxwell. "Our main players have just returned from overseas and I believe we played a good game. It is always going to be tough at Lynch Park, but we could have earned a share of the points if only the defenders played to instructions."
The first half was goalless as both teams failed to finish despite creating numerous chances.
Georges had the better of play in the second half and went ahead in the 57th minute in extraordinary fashion after striker Damian Darwood, who was completely marked out of the game by Roger Rodney, missed a penalty in the 56th minute, which was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper diving to his right.
Penalty
Wth the crowd cheering them on despite the miss, striker Leon Irving controlled a pass from Ushane Dobson on his chest near the penalty box, then turned and fired in one motion to hand his team a 1-0 lead.
And immediately after conceding the goal, Maxwell introduce striker Kevin Lamey, but despite his introduction, Waterhouse found the game tough as the defence line of the Taylor brothers, Jermaine and Ricardo, kept them at bay.
Substitute Omar Henderson, who replaced Harwood, scored in the final minute from six yards to seal Waterhouse's fate.
"The instruction was to spread the ball from the middle towards the left and right so as to disrupt their defensive unit," said Braxton Hyre, St Georges' coach. "The team is playing well and we will grow from strength to strength. Harwood was completely marked out of the game but the other players lifted their game and ensured this 2-0 victory."
