A buzz in September
Chester Francis-Jackson, Contributor

( L - R ) Robinson, Seaga

Daahlings, it's still all about the sign of Virgo, at least up until next Tuesday. The buzz this weekend is all about the all-white Virgo soirée happening this Sunday that promises to be all that and nothing but!

Pumpkins, wouldn't miss it for the world, and if you have not yet been asked, it really means you are not expected, so let it go!

Now, sweet things, belated happy birthday wishes, and then some, to the charming Galloon Belnavis, who celebrated her 21st birthday on August 26. Many happy returns my dear, and then some!

André Grange celebrated on September 8 with family and friends, with aunt, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, making sure it was all that!

The charming Dawn Young celebrated her birthday last Saturday, September 12, and the buzz is it was all that, and then some, as friends gathered at one of Kingston's leading eateries to celebrate with the doyen of protocol and entertainment maven on her very, very special day!

Honourable Usain Bolt

Then my daahlings, what a fitting homage - His Excellency the Honourable Ambassador Usain Bolt, international sprint sensation and Olympic and world double record holder in both sprint doubles - the 100 and 200 metres. And the world's most photographed and scrutinised celebrity.

Well my dears, paraphrasing the late Robert Nesta Marley: 'Them a go tired to see his face', as his best is yet to come! But what a fitting tribute to a worthy king!

Then come Wednesday, the 23rd, former prime minister Edward Seaga launches his latest tome, in what promises to be a not-to-be-missed event at the always happening Hilton Kingston hotel on Knutsford Boulevard, in the heart of the nation's business and financial district!

Dears, it's an invitation-only affair and promises to be a smasheroni, as the fab, the literati, the glitterati and the politico are all expected for this historic occasion. The book promises to shed more than just a passing light on the inner workings of some crucial periods of the Seaga administration of the '80s, and then some. Political observers can't wait for it!

Then, the enterprising Adrien Lemaire, formerly of the French Embassy, recently joined forces with the fab Terri-Kaye Robinson to create Dr Bird Expat Services - structured towards the high end of the business. This is in keeping with the appeal and offering of Robinson's concierge consultancy company that caters to heads of state, international celebrities and business tycoons, and offers services to expatriates living in Jamaica.

With Robinson's reputation and success in catering to the internationally rich and famous, joining forces with Lemaire is nothing but a stroke of genius. This is truly a timely intervention, and a most worthy one that should enhance the expat's experience while here in Jamaica. The services will provide from a pin to an anchor and geared towards solving attendant problems which may affect and improve the livelihood of foreigners during their stay here.

Kudos all around

Whether their requirement be: chartering a fully-equipped fishing boat and crew for the next marlin tournament; clearing goods and/or personal effects from the wharf; organising a cocktail party; or planning a family weekend at one of Jamaica's most exquisite beach - front villas - this is a welcome respite, so kudos all around!

Then my dears, the American Friends of Jamaica 2009 awards slated for October 5 in New York at the Plaza Hotel, with former US Ambassador to Jamaica Brenda LaGrange Johnson being invested with the International Humanitarian Award by the AFJ at its Humming Bird gala, is starting to look like the hottest ticket in the Big Apple for that weekend.

Doves, Ambassador Johnson and her husband Howard will be hosting the ultimate thank-you do with a pre-gala soirée on Saturday the third at the Core Club. It will be for friends and associates who will be jetting into New York for the occasion.

The Core Club first opened its doors in 2005 and is a membership-only organisation. We do mean you are invited and for the privilege expected to pay somewhere in the region of US$60,000 to US$72,000 to hobnob with the likes of Vernon Jordan and John McEnroe, plus a number of others. So you know we are talking a sure-fire social hot number here!

Historic event

Cambridge University is celebrating its 800th birthday this year, and to commemorate the historic event the Cambridge Society in Jamaica is organising an event to celebrate 'Education, Advocacy and Activism'.

This will take the form of a cocktail reception at the British High Commission on October 8. Cambridge alumni, Lord Anthony Gifford, QC, prominent international civil rights lawyer, and Professor Verene Shepherd, Jamaican historian based at the University of the West Indies, Mona, are keynote speakers for the occasion.

Hosted in collaboration with the British High Commission, under the patronage of the British High Commissioner Jeremy Cresswell, there will be a nominal cost of $2,500 per person. Funds are being raised for a bursary to enable a Jamaican student to study in Cambridge.

Dears, definitely a very worthy cause, and then some!
