Rhone's good works will live on

The late Trevor Rhone. - File

The Editor, Sir:

As Jamaica's premier film scriptwriter, Trevor Rhone was inducted as a Foundation Pioneer member of the Jamaica Film Academy at the first Reggae Film Festival in February 2008. As such, the Jamaica Film Academy pays tribute to the life and work of this gifted writer.

Trevor Rhone collaborated with Perry Henzell to create the film that gave birth to the indigenous Jamai-can film industry, The Harder They Come. He was chosen as script collaborator because of his brilliant play, Smile Orange, that was preserved for posterity when it became a wonderful, funny film that showcased the acting and comedic skills of Carl Brad-shaw.

Free advice

Trevor later went on to script Milk & Honey and One Love, among others, and gave his advice freely to any and all persons interested in the very special craft of film scriptwriting.

The rich legacy of Trevor Rhone is crowned by his many excellent theatrical works, but the film industry is truly grateful that his talents were shared with us all to our benefit. Honour and respect are due to him. His good works will outlive the mortal frame.

I am, etc.,

BARBARA BLAKE HANNAH

Coordinator

Jamaica Film Academy
