Young karters all set

Thomas Issa and Joshua Sirgany are looking forward to bringing home gold for Jamaica when they make their debut in the United States Grand National go-kart event on September 19.

Under the watchful eyes of their driving coach, Peter Rae, and the support of their parents — Christopher Issa and Ricky Sirgany — the young karters will leave the island early this week for Oklahoma, where they will continue their preparation for the world-class event.

In July, Issa finished in third place at a South Florida Karting Championship meet which pushed him into the limelight. Now, he is one of the favourites to dominate the Rotax Mini Max events at the Grand National.

"We recently got a new engine from the PSL Karting Company in Canada and this should make him much quicker on the track," said driving coach Rae.

Sirgany, who did well on his previous trip to Miami, has also secured a new engine and a lot is expected of him in the Micro Max Class.
