Marijuana found on uninhabited cay
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coastguard and the marine police last week found 10 bags of compressed marijuana on an uninhabited cay in the Portland Bight area of St Catherine.

Reports are that Operation Kingfish provided the intelligence which led to the operation on Big Pelican Cay, located three miles south-east of Cabarita Point, St Catherine, where the JDF coastguard and officers from the narcotics and canine divisions found the drug.

Drugs for guns trade

The marijuana is believed to have been stored on the uninhabited cay to be exported to Haiti as part of the ongoing illegal drugs for guns trade. The substance was transported on a JDF Coastguard vessel to land where it was weighed and tested by the narcotics police.

No one was detained or arrested during the operation. The JDF and Jamaica Constabulary Force said they will continue to combine efforts to combat the illegal drug trade.
