THE 17th season of the St Catherine Cricket Club Milo Camp begins today at Chedwin Park, Old Harbour Road, St Catherine. The camp is expected to run until August 21.

The camp, which started in 1992, will again cater towards children interested in the game of cricket from ages nine to 15.

St Catherine's club coach, Ephraim McLeod, is the coordinator of the camp and will have alongside him outstanding former national wicketkeeper/batsman Renford Pinnock Sr, head of cricket at G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sports; Gibbs Williams, national and club captain Tamar Lambert and Jamaican leg-spin bowler Odean Brown.

Registration begins this morning at nine o'clock.

The camp averages 50 boys and girls, with this year's turnout expected to be no different.

Lambert, West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson and other national players like Danza Hyatt and Keith Hibbert are just some of the names of those to have benefited from the camp.

Valuable lessons

During the two weeks, campers will be exposed to the basic tenets of the game, as well as valuable lessons honing the various skills in one of the world's most revered sports.

The camp concludes with a closing ceremony on August 21 with each youngster receiving certificates of participation, while individual awards will be handed to top performers in the fielding, bowling and batting departments.
