Phillips was a surprising finalist at the Beijing Olympics but he is yet to reach peak form this season. He was third at the National Senior Championships in June clocking 13.61. His season best 13.42 makes him the Jamaican number three behind Dwight Thomas, who is the fastest Jamaican in the event with a season best of 13.30 seconds. National champion Maurice Wignall has a 2009 best of 13.48.
