Following their historic regional three-day and one-day double, Jamaica's Under-19 cricket team had more reasons to celebrate Wednesday night when seven players were named to the West Indies U-19 Youth World Cup squad, which will begin preparation for the next year's event, to be staged in New Zealand.

Selected players

They are impressive 15-year-old opener John Campbell, West Indies senior team invitee, middle-order batsman André Creary, who did not play in the tournament due to a groin strain, spin bowling all-rounders, leg-spinner Akeem Dewar, off-spinner Jermaine Blackwood, and left-arm spinner Patrick Harty, fast bowler Nicholson Gordon, and wicketkeeper-batsman Kirk Harris.

The players, who all played important roles in Jamaica's double success, were chosen along with four Barbadians, three Trinidadians, three Leeward Islanders, two Guyanese, and one member of the Windward Islands team.

The are batsman Kraigg Brathwaite, all-rounder Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder and Jamel Warrican - Barbados; batsmen Yannick Carriah, Yannick Ottey and Evin Lewis - Trinidad; batsman Kejel Tyson and all-rounders Nelson Bolan and Kelbert Walters - the Leewards; batsman Kevon Griffiths and all-rounder Keon Josephs - Guyana; and all-rounder Dalton Polius - the Windwards.

West Indies chairman of selectors, Guyanese Clyde Butts, Jamaican Robert Haynes, Trinidadian Raphic Jumadeen, and national chairman of selectors, Nehemiah Perry, selected the 20-man squad.

Not originally part of the panel

Perry, who was not originally part of the selection panel, was summoned earlier in the tournament to deputise for Butts, who was engaged in tense negotiations between the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players Association during the just-concluded Bangladesh home series.
