St Andrew custos recovering

Bishop Carmen Stewart

The Custos of St Andrew, the Reverend Dr Carmen Stewart, was rushed to hospital yesterday morning after collapsing at the National Independence Day ceremony at King's House in St Andrew.

She was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where she was treated and released.

Friend and medical doctor, Dr Denise Eldemire-Shearer, who accompanied Stewart to the hospital, said the custos only suffered a fainting spell.

"She is sitting up, she is talking, all of the tests are just precautionary," Eldemire-Shearer told The Gleaner from the hospital yesterday.
