Opposition party blacklists dual-citizenship candidates
St Kitts (CMC):

The main opposition People's Action Movement (PAM) yesterday said it has no intention of fielding any candidate holding dual citizenship for the upcoming general election and defended its decision to legally challenge recently approved legislation on the issue.

PAM leader, Lindsay Grant, told a news conference that "all the necessary steps" had been taken to ensure that neither he nor his colleague, Shawn Richards, who had held United States citizenship, were barred from contesting the polls, the date for which Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas has not yet disclosed.

Grant, an attorney, said that he was prepared to put the necessary document indicating that he no longer held United States citizenship "on the table for inspection" only if the government was also willing to do the same with regard to a number of reports including an inquiry into the police force.
