DISSATISFACTION WITH the justice system has given birth to the Manchester Bar Association, which was recently inaugurated for registration as a machinery to aid in the improvement of the system. In the context of the foregoing, I suggest that the following be publicly displayed in the Ministry of Justice, the attorney general's chambers, and at the appropriate place in every courthouse throughout the island:
THINGS MUST BE DONE PROPERLY, WRONGS MUST BE MADE RIGHT, AND JUSTICE MUST PREVAIL.
Exercise greater care
Incidentally, I think one of the most important ways of improving the justice system is for greater care to be exercised in the selection of judges. Another is that judges' appointments should be terminated at the age of 65 because although some can perform efficiently beyond that age, I don't think the majority can, under the conditions that they have to work.
I think in this 21st century, all judges should be free to practise after retirement so that their experience will not be lost to the public. At present, only resident magistrates are free to do so.
