The potential of the PBCJ
The Editor, Sir:

The idea of having the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) to highlight areas of education, culture, news and parliamentary affairs was an excellent initiative, which was started under the P.J. Patterson-led administration. However, I still do not believe that the Government has yet explored PBCJ's full potential.

This station, which is a great educational tool, should be made a free to air television. While it is known that Jamaicans have gone the cable route, there are still many persons who do not have access to cable. A product like this should not be limited to individuals with cable but should be made available to all Jamaicans. Thanks to PBCJ, several government programmes/initiatives are highlighted.

I do hope that the relevant authorities will realise the necessity of this move and will also hasten the process of launching a radio unit of PBCJ.

I am, etc.,
