Eastern Caribbean awaits Libyan embassy, bank
A Libyan official said the country plans to open an embassy and a bank on an eastern Caribbean island that has not yet been identified.

The announcement signed by envoy Mokhtar Ghenas comes as the North African country seeks to strengthen ties with the region. An Eastern Caribbean embassy also is to be established in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

Ghenas was part of a Libyan delegation that recently traveled to St Vincent and met with leaders including those from Dominica, Grenada and St Lucia.

The statement released Monday by St Vincent provides no further details.

Libya already plans to open an embassy in the South American country of Guyana and help finance its agriculture sector.
