Reggae Boyz head coach John Barnes, who is also in charge of training sessions at the Digicel Kick Start Clinic, has identified a number of Under-16 players who will be considered for a one-week training camp in Sunderland.
Barnes will run the camps in six Caribbean and four Central American countries. At its conclusion, he will select eight youngsters for a one-week training opportunity at English Clubs Liverpool and Sunderland.
"I have seen four or five players here who would be a possibility, but I will now have to look at the other players in the other islands and then I will make my decision," said Barnes, a former Liverpool star, following the two-day camp, which ended on Thursday with a Premier League All-star team opposing the Digicel Kick Start Clinic team.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium. Kyle Scott netted for the Premier League All-star team in the 21st minute, while Lorenzo Osbourne scored the equaliser for the Digicel Kick Start team in the 59th minute.
"I expect the number of selected players to be high here, high in Haiti and high in Trinidad and Tobago because I know these are the places we are going to see the highest quality," Barnes said.
The players went through a number of drills -
"I know that Jamaican players are technically gifted but I am looking for their attitude, their desire and their commitment and their willingness to work with a team, to make it in England," he pointed out.
They players invited to the camp were selected from the parish teams and several clubs throughout the island.
Barnes added he was pleased with the technical ability of the players.
However, he noted he was a lot more impressed with their effort and commitment.
"I told the players on both teams that if they think any one of them is better than the other players on the other team then they will be in consideration and now few of them are," Barnes noted.
The second camp will be held in Barbados, beginning on May 12.
